City Commission Approves MOU with Gulf Power
Co-location Efforts to Strengthen Local Electric Grid
June 05, 2019
Today, the Tallahassee City Commission unanimously approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Gulf Power for the North Florida Resiliency Connection project.
As part of the MOU, the City will have approval rights as to the route within Leon County. The new route will mitigate impacts to residents along Tram Road and minimizes the amount of land that needs to be cleared.
Additionally, the terms of the MOU provide significant benefits, including hardening the City's transmission system by upgrading those portions of the City's transmission system where co-location occurs at no cost to the City and providing a potential interconnection between the City's electric system and the NFRC.
"Taking into very serious consideration the concern that we heard from our neighbors who live along Tram Road, outside of the City limits, we took action that will require an alternative route that will not disrupt the lives of our Leon County and area neighbors," Mayor Pro Tem Curtis Richardson said.
As next steps, City Manager Reese Goad will move forward with negotiations on the co-location agreement outlined in the MOU. Once negotiations are complete, the co-location agreement will be presented to the City Commission for approval.
