Old Bainbridge Water Main Replacement
In line with its commitment to providing best-in-class utility services, construction on the City of Tallahassee’s Old Bainbridge Road Water Main Replacements Project is underway. The purpose of this project is to replace approximately 9,600 linear feet of water mains, as well as valves, fire hydrants, water services and meter settings. This investment will improve the City’s ability to continue to provide safe, reliable drinking water and fire protection. You can see a map of the project limits below.
Construction began in August 2025 and is expected to be completed by summer 2026, barring any unanticipated delays. Construction hours are generally from 8 AM - 6 PM Monday through Saturday. To facilitate construction, it will be necessary to close portions of Old Bainbridge Road and adjacent streets periodically. Detours will be clearly marked to route traffic around the construction zone and ensure residents within the zone have access to their property.
From December 2025 through May 2026, Old Bainbridge Road will experience a temporary segmented closure between Tharpe Street and High Road to support this work. The project bounds run from Tharpe Street to Stone Road and from Cottage Grove Road to Swatts Road.
To minimize impacts during the holiday season, the roadway will reopen from Wednesday, December 24, 2025, through Sunday, January 4, 2026. The closure will then resume on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 9 a.m. and continue through May 2026.
Southbound traffic on Old Bainbridge Road will be detoured south onto High Road then east onto Tharpe Street to Old Bainbridge Road. Northbound traffic will be detoured west onto Tharpe Street then north onto High Road to Old Bainbridge.

A community meeting about this project was held on Oct. 16, 2023, at Transformation Church. Thank you to everyone who attended.
The Old Bainbridge Road Water Main Replacement Project includes the replacement and upsizing of the existing water infrastructure within portions of the Old Bainbridge Road corridor between Tharpe Street and Fred George Road. Specifically, there are two sections of water main to be replaced. The northern section extends from Cottage Grove Road to Ashby Hill Road. The southern section extends from Tharpe Street to Stone Road. (See Location Map)
The purpose of this project is to replace approximately 9,000 linear feet (3,000 linear feet in the northern section and 6,000 linear feet in the southern section) of water mains as well as valves, fire hydrants, water services and meter settings. This investment will improve the City’s ability to continue providing safe, reliable drinking water and fire protection. The project is proposed ahead of Leon County’s resurfacing project, which will occur after the completion of the utility work.
This project will replace undersized and aging utility infrastructure and reduce service interruptions due to maintenance and repair activities. It will allow the City to continue providing safe, reliable drinking water and fire protection for residents.

During construction, customers may experience temporary water outages when the new water mains are tied into the existing system and when existing services are reconnected to new services. Advanced notice will be given for planned outages, and every effort will be made to keep outages brief.
During construction, work will occur in the road’s right-of-way. All disturbed areas will be restored to their previous condition, including asphalt patching, replacement of sod, sidewalk, driveways, etc., where impacted by construction activities.
After the completion of the utility work the roadway will be resurfaced. Please be aware that there will be a period of at least 90 days between the end of utility construction and the start of the resurfacing project. City and County partners will coordinate closely in an attempt to minimize impacts to the travelling public during this phase.
