Suspects Arrested for Apartment Shooting/Robbery

On May 22, 2019 at approximately 10:00pm, TPD responded to the 1900 block of Honolulu Lane in reference to two black males shooting at a victim. The two suspects fled in a dark-colored sedan. It was determined that four unoccupied vehicles were struck by gunfire and one occupied residence was also struck. Thankfully no one was injured. Several 9mm casings were recovered from the scene.
On May 23, 2019 at approximately 3:00am, TPD responded to the 2000 block of Bloomington Avenue in reference to an armed robbery. The victim exited their residence and was approached by two black males, one being armed with a rifle. The suspects fled in a green/grey colored Lexus.
Both cases were assigned to Investigators with the Violent Crimes Unit. After conducting an extensive investigation, they developed two suspects of interests. In coordination with patrol Officers, a traffic stop was conducted on a gray Lexus driven by Jontavian Riley. A search of the vehicle yielded live 9mm rounds similar those found on the scene of the 1900 block Honolulu Lane. The victim's phone from the 2000 block Bloomington Avenue robbery was also located in the vehicle.
Based upon the collected evidence and consultation with the State Attorney's Office probable cause was found to arrest Jontavian Riley and Byron Wimberly. Both were taken in to custody by members of the Career Criminal Unit and Special Investigations Section, and transported to the Leon County Detention Facility, with additional charges pending.
