May 09, 2023
On Monday, May 8, the Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) was dispatched to two separate residential structure fires.
At 7 p.m., TFD was dispatched to a structure fire in the 100 block of Jakes and Patterson Street. TFD arrived on scene in less than five minutes to find flames coming from the back of a single-story building. TFD crews made entry into the structure and found fire located in a bedroom. TFD personnel was able to quickly extinguish the fire and search the structure for any occupants. TFD crews determined that no one was inside the structure at the time of the fire. There were no reported injuries on scene.
The State Fire Marshal's office was called to the scene for further investigation. TFD was assisted on scene by the Tallahassee Police Department.
A second dispatch call was received at 10:41 p.m. for a structure fire in the 2100 block of Register Road. The first arriving unit from TFD reported smoke showing from the front door of a single-story structure with fire visible through a window. TFD personnel made entry into the residence and found fire located in the kitchen area. The fire was quickly extinguished, and the structure was searched for possible occupants. TFD determined that no one was inside the structure and residents had gotten out of the home. There were no injuries reported on scene. The cause of the fire appears to have been a water heater.
TFD was assisted on scene by the Leon County Sheriff's Office, Leon County EMS and Talquin Electric. The Red Cross was called to assist the residents.
