City of Tallahassee Recognized for Performance Management Leadership

The City of Tallahassee has been recently recognized by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) for its commitment to data-driven government management and reporting with a Certificate of Achievement in Performance Management.

“Performance management is a bedrock principle of professional local government management,” ICMA Executive Director Marc A. Ott said. “As COVID-19’s impact on our communities lingers on, we hope that by recognizing these leaders, we are encouraging others to measure how well their organization is performing, and making a commitment to collect and analyze data, report it transparently, and use it to continuously engage their communities and improve their organizations during these unprecedented times.”

As part of ICMA's efforts to advance the practice of professional local government management, it awards certificates each year to recognize cities that instill a culture of performance management, pursue comparative analysis and data-informed decision-making, and promote transparency.

“With a clear plan and solid benchmarks, which were developed and implemented as part of the City’s five-year Strategic Plan, we are effectively charting progress toward our goals. Coupled with strong leadership from the City Commission, a year-round budget process and robust public engagement, we are on track to achieve our collective aspirations for who we are as a community,” City Manager Reese Goad said. “This recognition by ICMA further solidifies the City as the national leader in the delivery of public service.”

This achievement affirms that the City collects and verifies data to ensure reliability, trains staff in performance measurement and reports data to the public through a variety of measures. Specifically, ICMA reviewed the City’s budget on OpenGov, public safety data on the Tallahassee Online Police Statistics and economic data on the online dashboard.

The City of Tallahassee is among 16 cities to receive the Certificate of Achievement this year and is one of 60 recognized overall for exemplary performance management initiatives.
