Category Key

  • Cats - Felines 6 months and older
  • Kittens - Felines under 6 months
  • Dogs - Canines 6 months and older
  • Puppies - Canines under 6 months
  • Other - Wildlife, livestock, fish, reptiles, rabbits, pocket pets, and other non-cat/dog animals

Intake Types

  • Owner Surrender - an animal given up by its owner, either at the shelter or in the field
  • Stray - an animal found at large or lost that comes to the shelter
  • Return - an animal adopted from the shelter that is returned within 30 days
  • Confiscate - an animal brought to the shelter by an animal control officer due to cruelty, neglect, abandonment, or owner unavailability
  • Quarantined - a cat or dog held for 10-day rabies quarantine after biting a person
  • Transferred - an animal coming from another shelter or rescue group

Exit Types

  • Adoption - permanently placed with a person as a companion
  • Died/Missing - an animal that died or escaped
  • Euthanized - Behavior - aggressive or unsafe to rehome
  • Euthanized - Medical - cannot be adopted due to medical conditions
  • Euthanized - Time/Space - available for adoption but limited space or treatable issues
  • Euthanized - Age - orphaned animals under 5 weeks old, unable to eat independently
  • Euthanized - O.R. - stray animals later identified by owners and euthanized, typically due to severe injury
  • Reclaimed - stray animals reunited with their owners
  • Return to Home - community cat program: altered, vaccinated, ear-tipped, and returned to original location
  • Transferred - sent to a nonprofit rescue or shelter for placement
  • Live Release Rate = (adopted + reclaimed + transferred + community cat program) / incoming animals
