TFLA for Business
The Tallahassee Future Leaders Academy (TFLA) summer youth employment program is an exciting and innovative summer program that provides community youth, as young as rising Sophomores, with the opportunity to gain paid work experience and professional development training and receive weekly mentoring from a supervisor.
From June 5 - July 26, 2024, TFLA employees work about 22 hours a week, including seven weeks of working at a job placement with mentorship and guidance for 16 hours per week
TFLA Job Placement Partners
- Provide job placement for TLFA participant(s) for scheduled weeks, at least 16 hours a week
- Compensate TFLA participants during that period.
- Provide supportive work environment that assists operations and helps youth build skills.
In turn, the TFLA program will provide:
- Screening and background checks on all TFLA participants recommended to local employers.
- Pre-job training and professional development seminars for all TFLA participants.
- Opportunities for TFLA youth to receive industry recognized certifications, as applicable and available.
- Financial literacy training and access to a savings account for all participants.
- Continuing communication with the employer during the program to assess the performance of TFLA employees.
Beyond providing a job for a TFLA employee, there are several other ways local businesses can partner with the TFLA Program:
- Sponsor a TFLA participant who can be employed at another location during the 6-week employment period.
- Sponsor lunch at a weekly TFLA Event for TFLA employees.
- Provide workshop supplies, presenters, and/or snacks at a TFLA Event.
