TPD Makes Multiple Arrests Following Governor’s Square Mall Shooting

September 06, 2026

The Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) has made three arrests following an investigation into the shooting that occurred in the parking garage of the mall just before 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5.

A swift and thorough investigation revealed the arrestee, 15-year-old Marvin Gilkes, was in the parking garage when he fired at a vehicle occupied by people involved in an earlier altercation with him inside the mall. During the shooting, an uninvolved vehicle occupied by a family was also struck by gunfire. No one inside either vehicle was injured.

As the investigation progressed, TPD’s Violent Crime Response Team (VCRT) quickly located Gilkes and other individuals at an address within the city limits, where they were taken into custody without incident. During the investigation, officers recovered multiple firearms, including firearms reported stolen, as well as illegal drugs.

Gilkes was charged with discharging a firearm at an occupied conveyance, possession of a firearm by a delinquent and four counts of probation violation. Ronderick Troupe, 18, was charged with possession of more than 20 grams of cannabis, possession of a machine gun and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, a 14-year-old was arrested for violation of probation.

“This investigation reflects the dedication and persistence of our Violent Crime Response Team detectives, CIB detectives and patrol officers,” said Chief Lawrence Revell. “Violent crime can have a devastating impact on victims and our community as a whole. Our officers will continue following the evidence wherever it leads, holding those who commit crimes accountable and removing illegally possessed firearms from our streets.”

This case is a testament to TPD's ongoing commitment to seeking justice and the dedication of the men and women of TPD. Anyone with information related to criminal activity is encouraged to contact TPD at 850-891-4200 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS.
