Gaile Avenue
The City of Tallahassee’s City Farm TLH program transforms vacant properties into sources of locally grown food while bringing a vibrant amenity to neighborhoods. Following the program launch in 2020, the City established a successful 12-week urban farming training program, as well as a pilot farm in the Greater Bond community. To further entrepreneurial opportunities available through City Farm TLH, the City is working to identify vacant City-owned land that can be licensed to eligible program graduates to start their own small-plot farms as a part of the City’s Urban Farm Incubator Program.
While the vacant City-owned lot at 306 Gaile Avenue is deed-restricted from most types of development, it does represent an excellent opportunity to help address food insecurity in our community through the creation of an urban farm. Development of the property would include the installation of water pipes, fencing and a storage shed. While the urban farm would not be a public space, it could be utilized for educational opportunities and occasionally provide fresh produce directly to the community through pop-up sales. Before converting this vacant lot into growing spaces for City Farm TLH graduates, the City is seeking neighborhood feedback.
